At Jazz
Vermont, Band Camp for Grownups, you will be joining one of our 8 bands.
If you join one of our 3 big bands, you will be playing in a section with
other players, playing the music of Basie, Ellington, Kenton, Marsalis,
Gillespie, McConnell and more. If you join one of our smaller bands, the
octet, or nonet, you will be playing great charts by the masters. The
Bands Rehearse every day in the morning and the evening each for 2 1/2
hours. You will also be participating in section rehersals every afternoon
for about an hour.
Our trumpet guest artists are Maynard Ferguson Alumnus, Nick Drozdoff and Lionel Hampton Alumnus, Vinnie Cutro. About Nick Drozdoff
Drozdoff has been a fixture in Chicago’s jobbing arena for many years since he left Maynard Ferguson’s band in 1981. After many years running his own contracting business and completing his masters in classical trumpet, he began leading a double life in 1991 when he took on a “day gig” as a high school physics teacher. Drozdoff has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, allowing him to easily slip into a high school physics class. Drozdoff currently teaches physics and APB physics at Winnetka’s New Trier High School. He has been leading a double career existence, garnering awards as a high school science teacher and developing endorsement deals as a jazz trumpeter at night. Nick has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Maynard Ferguson, The Ojays, Keely Smith, Dennis DeYoung of Styx, Sammy Davis Jr., Melissa Manchester, John Denver, The Temptations, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and more. About Vinnie Cutro
During the past 30 years Vinnie Cutro has performed with noted jazz greats such as Horice Silver, Buddy Rich and Lionel Hampton. He has traveled extensively throughout the world appearing at jazz festivals and concerts in Europe, Japan, Africa, Canada, South America and the U.S.A.. Vinnie has appeared with Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Mintzer, Ray Charles, Blood Sweat and Tears, Mel Lewis Orchestra, Mel Torme and more. As a Trumpet player at Jazz Vermont you also can attend our daily improvisation
workshop taught by Jerry Bergonzi. Jerry Bergonzi is a world renowned
tenor saxophonist and has written 6 books on jazz improv applicable to ALL
instruments. His books include, Melodic Structures, Pentatonic Scales, BeBopScales and Jazz
Rhythms.
As a Trumpet player at Jazz Vermont you can also have a private lesson with
Nick Drozdoff or Vinnie Cutro scheduled during the week. (There is a separate charge for
